We all had our usual day out on Saturday and met up with a friend at her office. Just a few days before she told us a cat came into her room and actually pooped on the rug and scratched the couch. Poor Sapphire barked her lungs out in her crate while we had our conversation so I decided to let her out- obviously the cat left a scent that Sapphire couldn't resist!

A few moments later the Hubs and I both caught her sniffing at a corner and gulping down a container- a container of rat poison!

I quickly opened her jaws and dug out whatever that was in there and went to the nearest Vet. She had two jabs of poison antidotes, some stuffs to make her puke and later some liquid charcoal.

She didn't puke or showed any signs of poisoning so after lingering at the Vet for half an hour, we decided to go home.

I thought she did feel a little sick when we reached home, panting and restless, finally she laid and slept for the rest of the afternoon. We were really worried and kept on checking up on her from time to time.

The same evening she was back to her usual self, bright and cheery and a good appetite... phew!

P.s. Our dear friend didn't knew there were rat poison in her office. Maybe the janitor left it there.

It's just all too fast! But glad that we're back!

We met a friendly Mountain Bernese! Look how it charmed the crowd.

A sweet old St. Bernard. I was running to catch the train, no time to take a nice picture!

While we suffer from jet lag, Sapphire's enjoying a huge hangover.

I didn't bump my head. Sapphire earned her stars. Now I'm beginning to wonder why in the first place we bought and fixed up the safety gate.

Yep, you guessed right, Sapphire's roaming free in the house.

As long as there's no food laying openly, she's a pretty reliable house sitter!

She's been peeing on a regular spot (a good spot) but it's hard to get her to do it on the pee-pad. Hmm...

Anyway, we'll be away to Switzerland tomorrow (Yay!!) and Sapphire's already at the pet hotel. Just earlier I was busy in the kitchen no 'one' came to attend... Oooh! I miss her so much!

Be back in 2 weeks!

Day 1 (I was away for 7 hours):
I came home with Sapphire greeting me on the couch, her side of the couch! Looked like she managed to limbo under the gate. I gingerly looked around the house... everything was in place! 2 stars for Sapphire!

Day 2 (3 hours):
I placed card boards under the gate. I came back- and she greeted me on the couch too! She manage to undo the card boards, no damage, another 2 stars!

Day 2 evening (Slightly over an hour):
Horror.
I kind of anticipated this.
She pulled down my work bag, stole a pack of peanut butter biscuits and half a packet of instant tea. It was a mess. The Hubs and I were too occupied with the scene to take a photo.

I must have absent mindedly left the house with my bag too near the edge of the table.

Cleaned the floor 100 times. I even used lemon juice to get rid of the oiliness.

Sapphire is now down to zero star.

Boy, I'm glad I'll be home the whole day today and tomorrow too!

training and upgrade

Sapphire stays outdoor during the time when we are both not in. Just last Sunday we fixed up a safety gate between the hall and kitchen so she can stay indoors at the kitchen/ laundry area. No way I trust her roaming free in the house alone!

Yep, definitely another upgrade.

Pee pads! Now that's going to be a challenge. She doesn't really need to use it 'cause her daily morning and evening walks kinda take cares of it. But, just in case!

As a bonus, Sapphire gets to sniff and watch for cats at the back alley.

While I was cleaning up and dog-proofing the kitchen/laundry area...

Okay, as promised, here's the 'other thing' that happened during our Sunday walk.

We were walking behind this family- Dad, mom, kids and all. I noticed the girl had nunchucks over her neck, I gave a funny look (sorry for judging!) to the Hubs, but oh well, we just walked along.

A few meters ahead, we saw a couple with their handsome dog coming in our direction, before I could say "Hey let's go say hello!", The Man took the nunchucks from his daughter and began swinging it, let alone staring, at the dog and its owners!

Yeah, you heard me, swinging NUNCHUCKS!

The couple actually moved away from the path and let them walked pass. We were a little far behind but near enough to witness the whole situation.

Crazy people.

I hope the Man will swing it again one day and hit his head the same time.

Every Sunday evening, we bring Sapphire to a larger park, it's only slightly further, two minutes drive, her usual walks are at the park which is just at the end of the road!

Since it's the weekend, we see more joggers and people hanging out with their families.

So the question is, are dogs allowed? Well at the entrance, the sign says pets ARE allowed, but must be leashed. But along the way, other signs say No Pets Allowed. Bah, we bring her along anyway, cause we're not the only (responsible) dog walkers there!

Now the drama begins, as we were strolling, a boy and his dad were behind us within an earshot away, Boy asked: "Dad, they said no pets allowed, but why do people still bring their dogs?" Dad answered:"Because these people don't understand English."

I was mortified. Before I could respond, the Hubs turned around and said sharply to the man: "What do you mean we don't understand English?!"

He quickly replied: "Oh, I wasn't talking about you!"

Hubs: "Yeah, RIGHT!"

That man walked away with his son, as fast as he could.

I will leave the other drama to another post. Yep, it happened on the same evening.

Sigh. To make it up, we met a fellow beagle, a husky, a cute little toy poodle, two corgis and many other doggies that were enjoying their walk with their masters.

She went in her crate 10:30pm last night, and I woke her at 7:30am this morning. So far, it's been amazing.

All my friends who have been reading, some earlier, some later- Sapphire was an out-law, and today, what a huge change!

Looking and reading back at my old posts, I laughed and cried at the same time. I am proud to be Sapphire's Mom!

This may seem weird but I want to thank you, blog friends! Your comments and friendship, we truly appreciate :)

What?! Napping again? I'll be planning for another long walk later this evening.

We have been experiencing poor air quality for the past two days. Sapphire was sneezing and making funny inhalation sounds (reverse sneezing?), so we decided to let her sleep indoors- with us in our room!

I always knew that this day will come, just earlier than I expected! Well, it is happening, and there's no turning back after that!

We let her out to pee at 11:30pm, gave her a little water, and crated her. She slept throughout until I wake her at 7am! Day 1? Success!

I could hear her shift and turn at night but she was comfortable and didn't make a sound. I'm totally new with this- having a dog sleeping in my room, so if you have any tips and advises, I'm all ears!

I was bringing my mug to the kitchen and I saw cat! Two cats!

When I shooed them I could hear Sapphire scurried from her nap and fortunately, I managed to close the kitchen door behind me before any event (massacre!) happened.

They were just kittens. One managed to jump over the wall while the other was left behind. I was quite afraid that it would scratch (or even bite) me, while Sapphire was over the other side tearing the door down and barking crazy!

I realize that at that point I totally don't read cats! I cannot tell whether or not it was distressed. I had to help poor kitty over the wall- so I squatted, put my hand forward (please don't scratch me!) and to my surprise, little kitty came over, sniffed me and rubbed its body on my hand!

Quickly, I perched it on the wall, it even looked back, hesitant for it's own 'escape'. Then I decided to LET THE DOG OUT, of course by then, kitty jumped off almost instantly.

What just happened?

I was touched by a cat.

Meow.

P.s. I know that the back kitchen has been providing shelter to cats at night, especially when it's raining, because some mornings I find little paw prints all over the wall, but I just didn't expect to see them in the middle of the day.

Haha! Thanks for the comments! Yes, she did have some apple but that bite wasn't her :)

Yesterday, she yelped when we were doing our trick routine. After examining her hips and legs, I realized she had an abscess between her paw. Poor girl, it has already popped and there was some blood. She wasn't licking her paw before this so I didn't suspect anything at all.

Manage to clean and apply some antiseptic cream while she was distracted chewing a fresh new nylon bone. She's better now.

Hello everyone! I'll be home tomorrow! I am back at my hometown and didn't manage to blog before I left.

It has been a good holiday for me, reuniting with family and friends- and missing Sapphire lots!

She's doing great at Shayne's (our dog-sitter) apart from escaping (again!) from the room, tore open a food bag, had an open buffet and greeted Shayne the next morning with a full and huge belly!

I can't wait to see her tomorrow evening when we pick her up.

Sapphire's been her usual snoopy self. Things have been routine and a little mundane for us since we got back from our holiday.

Wonder what Sapphire did while we were away? Well, Shayne said that Sapphire was good, apart from escaping her pen (I believe from leaping on top of her crate) and 'undoing' the pen! Wow, I never knew she's actually capable of that! So she learn a few new tricks, haha!

When she got back home, she was practically following us everywhere around the house. And the next day, she chose to snooze at 'strange' places, places she never went for a snooze before. I guess there's truly no place like home?!

Ah, well today, it's more like 'normal'. Just happy to be home, with her family.

Remember Pepper? Sapphire won't be going to her usual sitter, because they couldn't manage two dogs at the same time for now. Since they are still housebreaking Pepper, having Sapphire around could do more damage than good!

But no worries! We found Shayne! She boards pups professionally and absolutely adores them. We've been there and let Sapphire stayed for almost the whole day, so it'll be easier for her (all of us!) when we leave for 9 days this weekend.

Sorry no pictures of Sapphire's new 'vacation spot' but will do the next time.

We'll be having guests! My sis, bro-in-law and Baby Chloe will be staying with us for a week. In fact they'll be arriving this evening!

Now that Baby Chloe is bigger (she's a year old now!), we are looking forward to let her play with Sapphire :)

As usual, I have 'fenced out' the living area- you know how busy beagles like Sapphire can be with new scents and with Chloe's toys laying around. Since I never get to train her around with little kids, I better be safe.

I let Sapphire snooze on the couch before I wash the covers, and it will be out of bounds for the next 7 days.

Sapphire had her bath, toweled dry and ready for a game of fetch. That's what I usually do now after bath-time. When I convinced myself she was fully satisfied, I started my evening cleaning routine.

Just as I began, Sapphire p**ped. I quietly went into the house, took the paper towel, and by the time I got there she was happily eating it. This was not unusual but as I got closer, she started picking up the pieces and ran... gulping and licking along the way.

*Faints*

Well, you can imagine the mess.

Just a couple of seconds later, she ran through the hall with soil and a piece of plant sticking out of her jaws. This time I lost it. I started pursuing her, leaving soil and dirt behind furniture, dirty footprints on my (already cleaned) floor, and dirt on my couch!

This is a long post for my standard.

Sapphire is chewing her favourite nylon bone as I type.

P.s. This snake-plant is mildly toxic. She's been having the habit of chewing its ends lately. I moved some of it outside and to the back of the house. Must removed everything, once and for all.

Oh, forgot to mention, she's been digging and eating soil from the pots too.

We are enjoying the holiday season. So much (it seems) had happened over the past few days. Besides myself being busy with a coming Christmas event in church, Sapphire too had a slice of the excitement :)

Last weekend we brought Sapphire along to a Ping-pong game- the one The Hubby goes to once in a blue moon. She charmed our friends with her large brown eyes and became an instant star. Not to mention there were kids there too! Too bad I didn't have my camera with me.

We had guests over too!

Sapphire stole biscuits early this morning. Wholewheat chocolate chip biscuits. To make things worst, she ate them with the wrapper. Yeap, you read right.

I attempted (in vain) to catch her. She went round and round and finally outside at the porch. I somehow manage to grab her by the collar and pry her mouth open. There it is! I can see the wrapper all chewed up but again, she slipped away and by the time I got her again, everything was gone.

SIGH.

I'm waiting for the wrapper to make its grand appearance. Maybe in a day or two.

We visited my sister in Singapore last weekend. Baby Chloe is almost one year old! Of course Sapphire also 'visited' her sitter, not that she has a choice but she did made them busy. Very busy!

We had a good one. That includes a visit to the Vet too. A car ride is always a bonus outing.

Sapphire had her annual vaccination, a couple of deworming pills and lots of hugs from her doctor. But I'm sure the highlight was sniffing around the clinic.

She's snoozing away right now as I type, on our couch.

This week seems to be passing very slowly for us. The weather is reaching 100 degrees and probably the reason for a lot of idling and lazing (for Sapphire, mostly).

Besides snoozing, she's been licking out from our ice-cream bowl, bits of apple, some frozen yoghurt...

I am reading all your blogs. All you 'out there' are doing a great job. Whether rescuing, chewing up things, dog-sitting, making your humans busy, training, or simply spending time together, I'M LOVIN' IT.

trip to the beach

What can we say? It was truly an experience for the dogs. Though the beach we went to was (sad to say) polluted, it was not like we had a 'Maldives experience'. Still, it was fun.

We sheltered at a friends' apartment, next to a resort hotel, and only explored the reasonably quiet beach behind it. Didn't go to the public beach as it was already too crowded.

The weather was... erm... let's say, good light but bad sky. Everything looked grey or dull white.

All the more excuse to go for another beach trip :)

We had lunch when we first reached there. Sapphire had to be penned up. Not complaining!

As usual.

Not the best of friends as we hoped. Mocha is giving the 'whale eye'.

Us and a friend are thinking of bringing our dogs to the beach! In Malaysia, there are rarely any beaches (or any other public places) that actually allow dogs. I guess we better choose a nice quiet spot!

We have not really confirmed our little day trip yet but I already bought a (very) long lead, an extended chain and a new nylon bone!

Will let you all know whether Sapphire gets to feel sand for the first time or not.

We are back again from a weekend-away trip. Does Sapphire misses us I can only guess. She's too busy snooping around her sitters' garden, that's for sure.

Sapphire runs and fetches vigorously every morning. After her meal, she'll watch me do chores. I toss her bits of food every now and then when I cross her, rewarding her for staying put. Most days she's unbelievably good, other days, erm...

This morning, she skipped the mischief and went straight to the sunny spot for a snooze.

Sigh.

It's Saturday! Sapphire is not in the house. Since I park my car in the porch during the weekends only, she takes her zzzs under the car.

Every time I hit the shower without crating Sapphire, I risk hazard. Just minutes ago I found pillows everywhere and the sofa cover only partially covering the sofa.

There can only be one suspect.

Forgotten to take a picture before clearing up. Will do the next time (definitely will be a next time!). She's just trying to improve the look for me.

The Hubby fell down the stairs this morning. Sapphire swallowed a nasal inhaler.

The inhaler fell open. She swallowed the 'sponge' whole. We have extras, took it and showed to the Vet, came back home, took this picture, and threw it away.

She had some of this to coat her tummy, and a couple of charcoal pills. Half hour later, she poo-ed, and was like this most of the day:

She's sleeping peacefully right now. Hope she'll be herself again by this evening. The Hubby is alright, no injuries.

I'm having a mild headache now. Maybe I worry too much.
